Toowoomba Residents More at Risk Suffering from a Stroke

People living in regional areas like Toowoomba are more at risk of suffering a stroke than those in the city, that’s according to the Stroke Foundation's No Postcode Untouched report.

There are currently over 3100 stroke survivors living in the Groom region.

It is predicted there'll be almost 370 stroke incidents in the Darling Downs this year.

CEO of the Stroke Foundation Sharon McGowan says they're working to see that number decline:-

“We need a national campaign to see that every Australia household has someone who knows the signs of a stroke and knows to call 000 – to think of that and to act fast. 

Stroke is a time critical medical emergency.

Time saved in getting people to hospital is brain cells saved."

 Symptoms of stroke:

Strokes occur quickly and, as such, symptoms of stroke often appear suddenly without warning.

The main symptoms of stroke are as follows:

• Confusion, including trouble with speaking and understanding
• Headache, possibly with altered consciousness or vomiting
• Numbness of the face, arm or leg, particularly on one side of the body
• Trouble with seeing, in one or both eyes
• Trouble with walking, including dizziness and lack of co-ordination.
