Every year South West Queensland locals gather to raise their cups and tip the balance in the fight against cancer in celebration of Cancer Council’s Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea (May 25).

In an effort to honour the region’s most dedicated hosts and launch the campaign for 2017, Cancer Council Queensland hosted a special Royal Tea this morning at Cobb & Co Museum.

Around 30 of South West Queensland’s highest Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea fundraisers will enjoy tasty treats and tantalising teas as a thank-you for their tireless efforts.

Cancer Council Queensland CEO Chris McMillan thanked Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea VIP hosts for their ongoing support.

“Every cup poured and dollar raised supports Cancer Council’s vital work in cancer research, prevention and support,” Ms McMillan said.

“Each year Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea VIPs go above and beyond to make a difference and we cannot thank them enough.

“In 2016 alone, our VIP hosts from across South West Queensland collectively raised over $125,000 for locals affected by cancer.”

In South West Queensland, more than 2040 people are diagnosed with cancer each year and more than 660 die from the disease.

Ms McMillan encouraged locals to pop on the kettle and prep the menu for their own Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea event.

“Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea is an opportunity to gather your friends and loved ones together to raise vital funds to ensure Cancer Council can continue its vital work, including support for those affected by cancer,” she said.

“From hosting or attending a morning tea, to donating, baking, or spreading the word, everyone can play a part in making 2017 a success.”

The official Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea date is Thursday, May 25, but locals can hold an event and raise funds anytime throughout May or June.

In 2017 more than 5500 Queenslanders are expected to host an Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea and raise $2.6 million for Cancer Council Queensland.
