Toowoomba’s ‘Green’ Image Remains Top Priority for Council

The Toowoomba Region was recently named by online travel site Expedia as one of Australia’s most beautiful areas, and Council has taken another step to ensure the region’s ‘green’ image is maintained.
Toowoomba Regional Council’s (TRC) May Ordinary meeting has approved the Street and Park Tree Policy to provide a strategic guide for the direction and ongoing development of Council’s tree population.
TRC Parks and Recreation Services portfolio leader Cr Joe Ramia said Council’s treet population was one of the region’s richest traditions and formed an important part of the social and economic landscape of the community.
“Council’s tree population provides a range of environmental, social and economic benefits to the region, community and visitors,” Cr Ramia said.
“This policy will ensure that these benefits are promoted, safeguarded and protected well into the future.”
The document brings together Council’s existing tree management documents and strategies and becomes the first policy approved by Council for the management of both street and park trees.
“The Policy will supplement and underpin Council’s existing tree management strategies and tools and provide Councillors and Council staff with a clear strategic direction for the management of both street and park trees,” Cr Ramia said.
