Among the many residents wanting an historical coin find to remain in Toowoomba is Mayor Paul Antonio.

A former NEXUS employee stumbled upon more than 5,500 coins during excavation work on the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing back in 2016, which have since been handed over to the Department of Environment and Science.

Mayor Paul Antonio is one many Toowoomba voices speaking out for the coins to remain in the region, and he isn't the only political leader who would like to see the historic find kept in the Garden City with others calling for them to remain here and become a tourist attraction.

The Department of Environment and Science is yet to decide where the coins will call home.
