Planned trips to New Zealand and Asia could be scrapped due to a lack of interest from Toowoomba Regional Councillors.

The trips which are earmarked for September and November this year would be visiting our regions sister cities in Asia and Whanganui in New Zealand, however at this stage there has been little interest shown from TRC councillors and the New Zealand trip will most likely not be happening this year.

Mayor Paul Antonio says he doesn’t know why councillors wouldn’t want to join both he and CEO Brian Pidgeon and at this stage Mayor Antonio will be the only councillor to make the trip to China.

Both Mayor Antonio and Mr Pidgeon will still visit Yuecheng District, Paju, in Korea and attend the Asia Pacific Summit in Daejeon in September.

Six months ago rate payers criticised the council after a number of councillors put their hands up to go on a $34,000 trip to Japan – could this be the reason?
