Two schools and numerous surrounding streets were placed into lockdown yesterday afternoon as police searched for a man (known to them).

Hill Street, Helen Street and Anzac Avenue at Newtown were all blocked to traffic along with St. Mary's College, The Glennie School and Lourdes Primary School all placed into lockdown as a precaution.

Just after 1PM police advised that the area was operating as normal and the lockdown was lifted.

Police took two people into custody however - they were not the persons of interest the police were originally searching for.

They are helping police in relation to different matters.
