Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) is undertaking a program to upgrade the region’s 27 cemeteries that will ensure these important community assets remain a place of dignity and respect.

Cr Geoff McDonald says; “Our cemeteries are as old as the region and so these timely refurbishments will ensure they remain a dignified place of remembrance and a nice place to visit.”

The Cemetery upgrades include improved fencing, upgrades to features and also lawn cemetery extensions and upgrades will include better shade structures for community comfort.

Council will soon release a tender for upgrades to the Columbarium Wall at Yarraman Cemetery and construction will commence soon on an extension to the Lawn Cemetery.

The Millmerran Lawn Cemetery has also been extended to allow for future burials and the “Ashes Garden” is currently being refurbished.

Evergreen Cemetery between Peranga and Kulpi will soon have a new Gazebo and following community requests a new lawn section has been designed and shortly will established.

Cecil Plains and Clifton Cemeteries has already received fencing upgrades and further upgrades are planned for the boundaries of Meringandan Cemetery, Cecil Plains Historic Cemetery, and Douglas Cemetery (between Goombungee and Crows Nest) as well as a significant upgrade to the fence at Carbarlah cemetery.

The Crows Nest cemetery has also recently seen a fencing upgrade and the planting of an avenue of shade trees will provide visitors with a relaxed setting to remember their loved ones.

There has also been signage upgrade at five of our smaller regional cemeteries to aide visitors in locating relatives; a program that will eventually roll out to all Cemeteries.
