A USQ singing group has joined a choral project encouraging Australians to unite their voices and help turn the tide on domestic violence.

A cappella singing group ‘The Harmony Wednesdays’ is lending its skills to the Queensland Music Festival's project. The event will bring together thousands of singers to join Queensland Music Festival Artistic Director Katie Noonan, Kate Ceberano and Eurovision finalist Isaiah in a mass rendition of John Farnham’s powerful anthem, You’re The Voice.

In the lead up to the event, which will take place July 29 at South Bank Piazza in Brisbane, USQ was visited by choral director Jonathan Welch who established the well-known ‘Choir of Hard Knocks’.

USQ Contemporary Music lecturer Helen Russell said it was a great opportunity for her students to gain insight and training from such a high calibre industry professional.

She also spoke of the importance of the group taking part in the important awareness-building initiative.

Katie Noonan is passionate about using music to educate, inspire and change the world, as well as helping everyone to find their musical voice.

“I’m so proud of the positive response from the Australian community and music industry in rallying together to support this initiative. It is a testament to the power of music being able to make a difference,” Ms Noonan said.
