The last section of the inner circulating road network will be completed with the two-waying of Victoria Street, Toowoomba on Wednesday, 29 March 2017.

Toowoomba Regional Council Deputy Mayor and Infrastructure Committee Chair Cr Carol Taylor said the change to two-way traffic on Wednesday will follow the recent conversion of Neil Street and the remaining section of Russell Street to two-way traffic.

“The change to two-way traffic is designed to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion in the   inner city,” Cr Taylor said.

“Victoria Street will complete the inner-circulating road network of Russell Street, Neil Street and Herries Street.

“This will work in conjunction with the Outer Circulating Road network of Victoria Street, Chalk Drive, Hume Street, Herries Street, Clifford Street and Russell Street which directs non-city bound traffic around the CBD and relieves congestion particularly on Ruthven and Margaret streets.”

Cr Taylor said QIC Grand Central development contractor Probuild  had completed its work at the intersection of Victoria and Margaret streets to prepare for the two-waying, while Council had carried out works from this intersection to Russell Street.

“Victoria Street will now have one lane of traffic in each direction from Herries Street to Russell Street,” Cr Taylor said.

“While new signage and linemarking will be in place, motorists and pedestrians are urged to plan their trips and be aware of the new traffic arrangements.

“These changes will allow motorists to get to their inner-city destinations more easily.

“Council has put these changes in places to cater for the growth of the city and to meet future traffic efficiency demands.”

“Motorists are reminded that the speed limit will be 40km/h – the same as the rest of the CBD area. This change improves safety and also allows for a better mixed use of pedestrians and cars.
