The silly season is upon us once again and Western Downs Outreach Program would like to take this opportunity to thank the communities of Dalby and Chinchilla for getting behind their support system for those whom can least afford it.
The past year has shown that there is a real need for safety net services such as our Soup Kitchen which by the end of the year would have served over 11,500 meals, on top of this we have provided over 30,000 bakery items, 80 emergency food boxes, $20,000 worth of new and used clothing and $15,000 worth of Furniture and home goods. WDOP has done this without any government assistance or any substantial funding from business or industry.
They have received great support from many different channels this year and would like to thank everyone whom has helped us grow substantially this year. WDOP have had some major challenges that have pushed them to their limits but they hope that in the New Year they can further expand and serve the local communities in a greater way.
One hit that they had to take head on was the loss of our food hamper distribution charity “FoodAssist”. Since their closure in October the level of food assistance that we have given out to the community has skyrocketed without any additional revenue or funding to be able to provide it. WDOP are working hard to create a sustainable program to ensure this assistance is not lost in the longer term.
2018 WDOP will be providing a greater level of service within a larger area encompassing the entire Western Downs region.
To do this they need even greater levels of support from the wider community.
If you are able to assist us in any way (services are often better than cash) please call us on 1800 990 364 or 0490 375 562.
WDOP celebrate Christmas with these special events:
Their Christmas Dinner will be the largest they have ever held, stretching capacity to 160 people. Everyone will receive a 3 course Turkey and Ham Dinner, visit from Santa and a gift, not just for the children but the adults as well!
