A Darling Downs business has been recognised for its efforts in employing people with a disability.

Withcott Seedlings picked up the inaugural Judy Antonio Memorial Award at the Business Disability Awards Dinner held earlier this week.

The award honours the legacy of Mrs Antonio who lost her 7-year long battle with motor neurone disease 14 months ago.

Withcott Seedlings employ around 7 assisted employees with as many as 30 at various times.

CEO of Withcott Seedlings, Mike Hindle says that he is humbled and honoured to receive the award. 

The 2017 awards have been hailed by organisers as the most successful in the event's five-year history, with 188 guests attending the gala dinner at the Highfields Cultural Centre.

 

 The Award Winners were:

  • Social Inclusion Award: Sharon Boyce
  • Outstanding Employer Award: Westridge Fruit Shop
  • Outstanding Employee/Volunteer Award: Mikey Jones (Highly Commended: Chris O’Shea, Steven Wooldridge, Robert Fernandez)
  • Innovation & Access Award: Niamh Jarvis
  • Business Engagement Award: Ability Enterprises
  • Elissa Flanagan ‘Aim High’ Scholarship: Deanna Brady
  • Judy Antonio Memorial Award: Withcott Seedlings
