A (slight) scare for residents out at Pink Lake yesterday, when black, billowing smoke appeared in the sky.

The smoke belonged to a fire that broke out in the shed of a residential off Helms and Barook Road. Police and fire-fighter sirens were heard just after 1:30pm. The fire was soon under control, with police leaving the scene at around 2:00pm.

It’s the time of year for smokey skies with famers taking the opportunity to burn off stubble rows before seeding starts and with burning restrictions lifted after the summer season.

Asthma sufferers are warned to travel with their inhaler if they notice any smoke in the sky, which mad adversely affect their breathing.
