Walkway to the Tanker Jetty removed for public safety

Right or wrong move?

This past Tuesday, the Esperance Shire made the move to remove the ramp which leads to the entrance gate of the closed Tanker Jetty. This measure was applied for in March and acted on this past Tuesday as a measure to secure the safety of the public.

The council has said and confirmed that this ramp serves no historical significance to the Jetty itself but there are various people who have shown their anger at the decision, saying that this is in fact another another nail in the coffin of the demise of the Tanker Jetty.

The shire council has said that they would very much like to have a Jetty still but at this stage public safety is paramount, however many have spoken up that the should someone try to illegally access the Jetty, it will be hard for emergency services to save someone with the lack of access should someone get stuck.

This certainly will continue to be an ongoing debate and is one that I will continue to keep you all up to date on - Draker
