Beach search suspended

New South Wales Police has suspended its search for a "possible" missing swimmer at Cabarita Beach south of Tweed Heads.

Emergency services were called to the scene about 4.30pm Sunday after receiving reports of what looked like a person raising their arms before disappearing below the water, about 200 metres offshore.

Police and life savers conducted an air and land search for the person, which was suspended at 7.10pm due to fading light.

A ground search for no personal belongings in the area, and nobody has been reported missing.
