Dam overflows after heavy rain

A word of warning to stay out of deep or fast-moving water downstream from Little Nerang Dam today.

The dam started overflowing on Wednesday night, following heavy rainfall in the hinterland.

Upper Springbrook recorded 175mm in just 24 hours.

Seqwater released a statement at 10:26pm stating, "Little Nerang Dam is now spilling excess water and outflows have increased due to continuing rainfall in the catchment area".

The body's also warned people to avoid hazards downstream of the dam, near waterway and floodplains.

"These hazards potentially threaten the safety of you and your property," it reads.
