Gold Coast acting mayor Donna Gates has thrown her weight behind a push to increase trading hours during the Commonwealth Games.
It comes after Games Minister Kate Jones announced on Tuesday that State Government would consider loosening trading hours for retail and hospitality businesses during the event in April.
Councillor Gates responded to the news with an emphatic: "Let's go for it."
She also supported the idea of extending nightclub open hours, including the current 3am last drinks cut-off, calling for a trial to be undertaken.
"We're a tourist town, we've got 11 days of competition when the world will be here," she said.
"I say lay out the late-night welcome mat."
