RACQ has released new data showing the Gold Coast is the worst location in Queensland for car and home thefts.
RACQ spokesperson Kirsty Clinton said almost 400 cars had been stolen on the Gold Coast since 2015, with almost 650 homes burgled.
“Local residents need to be vigilant about home and car security to ensure they’re not victims in the future,” Ms Clinton said.
Thieves were often opportunistic, Ms Clinton said, and there were some simple steps property owners could take to avoid being targeted.
“Always lock your car doors and keep the windows up, park in a secure garage or well-lit, well-populated location and never leave valuables on display in your vehicle,” she said.
“When it comes to your home, lock your doors, consider investing in an alarm or sensor light, and if you trust your neighbours, ask them to be on the lookout when you’re away.”
Logan came in second for the top location for both car and home thefts.
