Protest over royalty fees

GC nightclubs to ditch Aussie bangers

You may not hear your favourite Sia or Jessica Mauboy tunes in the nightclubs anymore with the Gold Coast's nightlife being urged to ditch Australian music.

It comes amid a protest over a price hike in royalty fees that could see costs double.

The music bill for a 500 person club trading six nights a week is expected to soar from $150,000 to $300,000.

The head of the Surfers Paradise Licensed Venues Association told News Corp he was chatting with his Melbourne counterparts about a potential boycott.
