One man has been charged and another is still being questioned, after allegedly threatening two tow truck operators with a gun.
The workers were called to Varsity Parade in Varsity Lakes around 10pm on Friday to remove an illegally parked car when they were apparently approached by two men, one armed with a gun.
The men allegedly made threats and told them to leave the vehicle alone, before the tow truck drivers managed to run off, unhurt.
The police were called and arrived a short time later to find the two men trying to take a wheel-clamp off the vehicle.
They were arrested and taken to the police station for questioning while the car was searched, with three replica fire-arms allegedly found inside.
A 49-year-old man was later charged with extortion with intent to gain benefit with threat of detriment and was due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court that same day.
Police said the investigation was ongoing.
