The massive, white whale featured in the 2018 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony has found a new home.
The State Government has announced the inflatable Migaloo, measuring nearly 30 metres long, will take pride of place at the new Gold Coast Home of the Arts.
It will be pulled out of storage and transported to HOTA in the coming weeks, to be used as a mascot for future events.
“It makes sense to keep the iconic and memorable whale on the Gold Coast,” said Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk.
“People flock to the Gold Coast every year in the hope of catching a glimpse of the real Migaloo during migration," she said.
The whale, decorated with artwork by Delvene Cockatoo-Collins, is 27.5m long, eight metres high and eight metres wide and required a trained crew of 24 people to operate it.
