Investigation underway into Health Minister's trips to the coast

Federal Health Minister Sussan Ley has agreed to stand side without ministerial pay, while an investigation is carried out into her travel expenses.

Ms Ley has come under fire after it was revealed she bought a luxury unit on the Gold Coast in 2015, while in Queensland on a tax-payer funded business trip.

She said she bought the property on a whim but has since apologised for the"error of judgement" and offered to repay the $3,125 the trip cost the public.

However it has since come to light that Ms Ley also allegedly claimed travel costs to the Gold Coast for New Years Eve celebrations with family in both 2014 and 2015.

The matters will now be investigated by the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet but Ms Ley said she is confident she's done nothing wrong.

"I have nothing to hide; I have not broken any of the rules, but I also recognise that I need to subject those travel records to scrutiny," Ms Ley said.

"I apologise for the distraction that this issue has caused, since it arose late last week, to the agenda of the government and my colleagues in cabinet," she said.
