Knockout blow at Surfers Paradise

A man has been knocked unconscious during a fight in Surfers Paradise.

Police will allege a verbal argument between two men between Hanlon and Trickett Streets on the Esplanade, escalated to a physical scuffle around 12:35 on Monday morning.

A 47-year-old Fortitude Valley man was apparently punched in the head and fell to the ground unconscious, where he was punched several more times.

He was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital with serious facial injuries.

A 25-year-old man was questioned by police following the incident and later charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.

He is due to face the Southport Magistrates Court on April 12.
