A Burleigh Waters man has been charged over an alleged 2007 sex attack on a Brazilian boy in Mermaid Waters.
The then 16-year-old victim was allegedly sexually assaulted in a Markeri Street car park in December of that year.
Detective Senior Sergeant Troy Penrose said the 51-year-old's arrest was the result of hard work and a breakthrough in technology.
"As a result of dedicated police work and modern technology that wasn’t available at the time of the offence police were able to solve this crime," he said.
“We hope it brings closure to the victim and his family to know that police worked diligently to produce this outcome."
The man will face Southport Court on Wednesday charged with two counts of sexual assault and one count each of rape, deprivation of liberty and going armed so as to cause fear.
