One charged after police chase

Two people remain on the run

A 28-year-old man has been hit with a string of charges overnight, after allegedly leading police on a car chase up Mount Tamborine.

The Polair police helicopter was called in to track the ute across the northern Gold Coast suburbs yesterday, after it was allegedly spotted driving erratically through Hope Island around 1:30pm.

The helicopter followed the vehicle across a number of suburbs before spotting it in the car park of an Oxenford theme park, where the driver and another person got out and apparently tried to break into another vehicle.

They soon gave up and fled in the original ute, which was driven into bushland near Thunderbird Park on Mt Tamborine.

A 28-year-old man was arrested at the scene and charged overnight.

The Newtown man was due to face court on Thursday, charged with two counts of break and enter, two counts of attempted unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Investigations continue as police hunt down a man and a woman believed to have been in the vehicle as well.
