Paramedics cruising on bikes for Schoolies

Don't be surprised to see paramedics on bikes in Surfers Paradise during Schoolies week.

For the first time, the Queensland Ambulance Service will deploy the Bicycle Response Team.

Senior Operations Supervisor Justine Payne believes the 'BRT' will give them the fastest way to respond to Schoolies needing urgent care.

"They can get around the Gold Coast quite easily in situations of high pedestrian traffic and high vehicle traffic," he said.

"There will be at least two on for the earlier half of the evenings ... up until about 11 or 12 at night."

Week one of Schoolies kicks off tomorrow.
