A police chopper has been used to track an allegedly stolen car being driven around the Ashmore area.

It was first spotted around 3am on Saturday morning, with the PolAir helicopter keeping an eye on the vehicle from above while police on the ground deployed tyre spikes at the corner of Ashmore Rd and Heeb St.

The device worked, with a male driver and his female passenger arrested at the corner of Southport Nerang Rd and Kamholtz Pl a short time later.

A 25-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman were both due to face the Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.

The man was charged with 11 offences, while the woman was charged with seven, including burglary, both sets of charges included dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and stealing.
