Runaway teen aunt says police don't care

A woman claiming to be the aunt of one of the three Gold Coast girls caught in a stolen four wheel drive at Taree on Monday, says the group made it as far as Campbelltown in Sydney, and were finally nabbed as they made their way home.

That woman, we'll call her Joan, also claims the family notified police of the girls' exact whereabouts hours before they were caught, but nothing was done.

"We gave them the location of the girls twice, but nothing, there were no resources used," she said.

Joan also fears the alleged driver, a 17-year-old from Coomera, will walk away with just a slap on the wrist.

"There's no consequences, there's no consequences whatsoever," she said.

"Police actually said do you really want to butt on with this."

The official New South Wales Police statement said the girl would be dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.
