Stage two of the G:Link has only been open for a month, but we've already seen thousands of people travel the new section of track to the city's north.
More than 78,000 trips were taken from the three new stations from the Gold Coast University Hospital to Helensvale, since the section of the light rail came online just before Christmas.
There was also a 25 percent increase in patronage right across the Gold Coast network over that period.
That's an increase of 172,000 extra trips.
Member for Gaven Meaghan Scanlon reckons it's proof of the success of light rail on the Gold Coast, and expects it's popularity to grow in 2018.
“We’re expecting more and more people will use the light rail service throughout the year as residents return from holidays and become familiar with their new public transport system," she said.
