Cricket Wicket Out!!

Article heading image for HOWZAT?!

A piece of history will be removed from one of the oldest City of Kalgoorlie Boulder Sport facilities, after the City Council last night voted to remove the Wicket Block from Sir Richard Moore Sports Arena.

The Wicket has hosted some big games over the years and several big names such as Dennis Lillee, Sir Donald Bradman and Sir Viv Richards. But times are changing and the new facility for Cricket - Ray Finlayson Sports Complex is under a growth period and set to host Cricket into the future.

As part of the decision, Council also elected to keep Cricket at Cruikshanks Sports Arena for the foreseeable future until cricket can be assured of having regular ongoing senior fixtures played at the new facility in West Lamington.  The motion to remove the Cricket wicket at Sir Richard Moore is not a new decision - it was part of the original decision when Council were considering the future of Cricket back in 2011 and 2012 in consultation with sporting groups on the future use of the new Arena - ultimately Ray Finlayson Sporting Arena.

In part three of the Councillor Allan Pendal moved motion, Norkal Park will remain in a condition for use as a oval for Boulder residents to use for such exercises as Dog Walking and non competitive sport or training.

The Wickets at Sir Richard Moore will be removed at the end of the Current Goldfields Football League season.
