Peaceful demonstrations have been held in Kalgoorlie-Boulder during the verdict of the Elijah Doughty case.

A 56-year old man has been convicted of dangerous driving causing death, while the jury has found him not guilty of manslaughter.

The 14-year-old died in August last year while fatally struck by a two-tonne utility after he had fallen off his bike on a bush track in Gribble Creek.

The demonstrations called for justice down Hannan Street, while demonstrations were also held in Perth.

The trial lasted four days and nearly seven hours of deliberations came to the result.

The decision was met with some screaming from the public gallery inside the court house.

Chief Justice Wayne Martin accepted the driver was remorseful for his actions.

The sentence has been backdated to the time of the incident meaning he could be released as early as February next year.

He was also disqualified from driving for two years.
