Reduced airfares for local Kalgoorlie Boulder residents became available today for those travelling from Kalgoorlie Boulder to Perth.

QANTAS pressed the go button on the new site that would give discounts to eligible residents who are part of the QANTAS Frequent Flyer Program and reside in Kalgoorlie Boulder.
Qantas Domestic CEO Andrew David said the discounted fares scheme was now open for bookings.
“Residents can access the discounts through local travel agents, or through a dedicated website with an easy booking process which displays the amount saved,” said Mr David.
“The discounts are designed to make return flights to Perth, particularly for last minute trips, more affordable for residents,” said Mr David.
The discounted fares scheme will be run as a 12 month trial, during which Qantas will review the uptake and revenue impact. Qantas will continue to run regular sales providing low fares for all customers wanting to travel to and within Western Australia.

City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder CEO John Walker said the City was thrilled to see Qantas’ commitment to the scheme become a reality.

“This is a simple, easy to use system, which means Kalgoorlie-Boulder residents can quickly and easily access discounted fares through a simple log-in, which is linked to their Qantas Frequent Flyer account,” he said.

“Qantas have also made sign up to their frequent flyer program free, so there is nothing to stop all residents taking advantage of these discounted return fares.

Member for Kalgoorlie Kyran O Donnell however was a little more cautious of the deal. Mr O’Donnell said that residents may feel a little mislead, “unfortunately due to the discount being applied against the full fare cost, in some cases residents may find that their airfare price falls short of their expectations”.
“Whilst the new resident airfares may not be quite as affordable as residents had hoped for, it is a step in the right direction and an improvement on the current pricing”.
“For individuals and families travelling to Perth for medical appointments, they are having to pay significant airfares and whilst these discounts provide some reprieve, I think we can do better”.

The discount scheme allows Kalgoorlie-Boulder residents up to four return fares from Kalgoorlie-Boulder to Perth per resident. Residents can book their discounted fares from 10am today at www.qantas.com/residentfares or visit a local travel agent.
