The Campaspe Animal Shelter is extending their adoption promotion until numbers are significantly reduced.
The 'Cat-pacity' promotion that kicked off last month provides an opportunity to move felines on to loving homes in order to make way for the constant flow of cats and kittens entering the shelter.
“Sadly, the shelter is inundated with cats and kittens. Whilst 36 felines have been adopted since the start of the promotion in early April, another 40 will be available for adoption over the coming weeks. And the cycle continues.”
- Public Environments Manager, Kate Lemon
But the unfortunate reality is - as one cage empties, it is immediately filled with another feline.
The adoptions fees have been heavily reduced to $50. Council registration still applies.
All cats and kittens at the shelter are desexed, microchipped and vaccinated, and have been assessed as having good temperaments that make them suitable for re-homing. The shelter has a variety males and females cat breeds available to adopt.
“Cats can become pregnant by four months of age, so early age desexing between 2-3 months is recommended to help manage the volume of abandoned and surrendered felines to the shelter.”
- Ms Lemon said.
Council is also holding a one day event at the Campaspe Animal Shelter this Saturday, 5 May from 10am – 2pm. Named “The Price Is Right”, all felines will be further reduced at this event with a pick a box set up indicating the adoption price from anything between $0 - $30.
The Campaspe Animal Shelter is open seven days a week at varying times.
