Numurkah Locals Stand Up To Stop Violence Against Women

Numurkah local, Jenna Simpson, is helping prevent the cycle of violence against women by hosting a White Ribbon Day on Sunday, August 12th, to raise funds and awareness for White Ribbon Australia.

The event will be held in the President's Room at Numurkah Community Learning Centre: 99 Melville St, Numurkah from 11am-2pm,

Here, there will be mini stalls showcasing the talents of local women in home businesses, there will be fun games and prizes up for grabs!

For just $10 entry at the door, you'll receive a glass of bubbly and a raffle ticket. All women are encouraged to go along for a great day out!

“Over 12 months, on average, one woman is killed every week in Australia as a result of intimate partner violence,” Jenna said.

I want people to know that violence against women  is everyone’s issue, and it is unacceptable. This August, I AM taking a stand by holding a White Ribbon Day to stand up and speak out, to prevent the cycle of abuse in our community. We will not remain silent.

I have experienced domestic violence first-hand, and it is something that has stayed with me after all these years. It is not something you just “get over”. I want everyone, both men and women to know how to prevent domestic violence and what to do if it happens to them. Domestic violence is not ok!!"
