There’s a hay shed fire this morning at Yarroweyah – CFA crews have gone home and will go back later today as it’s still smouldering – a community alert’s set to be put out shortly

Three puppies have been dumped at the front gate of the Shepparton Animal Shelter.

Staff were able to save the eight-week-old Labrador Cross puppies - despite the trio's hunger, dehydration and one puppy's broken leg.

Staff are urging people wishing to surrender unwanted animals to come into the shelter itself - as it's an offence to abandon animals.

Workers want what's best for the animal - saying no judgements will be made, and people don't have to provide information or pay any money to do so.

Greater Shepparton's first ever Heritage Open Day is just two sleeps away.

Tickets are selling fast for tours and bus trips to 44 places of diverse and unique heritage interest right across the local government area.

The City Council's Michael MacDonagh says there's so much on offer - it's impossible to cover all locations within the six hour opening time.

Women around the Goulburn Valley are being urged to host a Girls Night In this month - to support local's diagnosed with breast or gynaecological cancer.

Each year in Greater Shepparton - 145 women are diagnosed with breast cancer, and 59 are diagnosed with either cervical, ovarian, vulva or uterine cancers.

Cancer Council Victoria's Bernadette Kennedy says events can be run through October or November - attendees simply donate what they would have otherwise spent on a night out.

Two young women from Mooroopna have been included in the AFL W's academy squads for 2018.

17-year-old Becky Webster will be eligible for the 2018 draft - after being included in a list of 29 players put into the Level two squad.

Meantime 16-year-old Millie Brown's been selected as one of 15 players in the Level One Category - who will spend a year in development including participating in High Performance training camps.
