We're very lucky in the Great Southern to have some amazing teachers helping to coach the next generation and it is great to see the teachers are being recognised in this years WA EDUCATION AWARDS 2017.

Our very own Laycee Coles from East Narrogin Primary School has been nominated for WA Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer of the Year. Laycee has had a massive positive impact on the kids and assists with a number of things in the school including teaching the Noongar language, community visits to the families and day to day tasks in the class.

When asked about the importance of kids learning the Noongar language Laycee said "I do think it is important, because parts of it have been lost and they don't really speak of it at home. It just gives them some ownership and the ability to speak the language at home." - Laycee Coles

Good luck Laycee we hope you get it
