The RAC Rescue helicopter has been based in Bunbury since February 2016 and in that time it has responded to over 400 incidents including motor vehicle crashes, farm or industrial injuries and search and rescue missions.

Which is why people were concerned for it's fate when the Labor Government had decreased it's commitment to the royalties for regions program. However the state government has reported that the service would receive $9.3 million a year in funding and has been allocated $27.9 million in forward estimates.

“Today’s announcement underscores the importance this Government puts on vital regional infrastructure and provides certainty of service for the South West, I’m pleased that, for the first time, my Government has secured long-term funding for this important emergency service.” - Mark McGowan

The chopper provides critical care medical services to people 24 hours a day, every day of the year, saving hundreds of lives across the South-West, Peel and Great Southern regions.
