Death at Blackman's Bay

Tasmania Police have confirmed an 18-year-old man from NSW was last night located deceased in the water in the Blackmans Bay blowhole area south of Hobart.

Police initiated a land, sea and air search yesterday evening after the man failed to meet with family at Blackmans Bay.

He had indicated his intention to walk the waterline from Boronia Beach to Blackmans Bay, starting at about 2.30pm.

He was not familiar with the area and the alarm was raised when he had not arrived at Blackmans Bay some two hours later.

It is understood the man had an interest in parkour. It cannot be determined at this stage whether his injuries were as a result of attempting to jump the distance of 5m from the North side of the blowhole to the South side, or whether he simply slipped and fell.

The man's body was located by marine police at 9.30pm.

Inspector David Wiss said “This is an absolute tragedy and our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this sad time.
“The investigation is continuing today with police and forensics officers on scene and a report will be prepared for the Coroner,”
