Police have issued the second warning this year warning Tasmanians about fake 50 dollar notes doing the rounds throughout the greater Hobart area.
Detective Acting Inspector Jim Semmens says “the notes are distinctively fake and have apparent Chinese characters printed on both sides.”
Officials also adding that in most cases, only one fake note has been used per transaction.
Police requesting that businesses, especially ones that operate in regular cash transactions are vigilant in checking notes received.
The warning comes after in June, Police received a number of reports about counterfeit 50 dollar notes being used in the North of Tasmania. Those ones all had the same serial number - HH 13863456, and while they shared a likeness to the real thing, officials say they were smaller.
