A 25 year old Gagebrook man has been charged with manslaughter over-night and remanded in custody following a fatal car crash in New Town last week.
Tasmania Police have advised he is set to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court this morning.
The crash occurred on June 22 where two cars collided at the intersection of Pirie and Roope Street, New Town.
A grey Mitsubishi Magna Sedan and a blue Holden Commodore collided at the intersection, with the impact forcing both cars to the adjacent footpath. The driver and front passenger of the Magna fled the scene prior to the arrival of emergency personnel.
The 42 year old female driver of the Commodore was entangled in the wreckage, requiring an extensive extraction by Ambulance Tasmania and Tasmania Fire Service crews.
The woman was then transported to the Royal Hobart Hospital, but tragically passed away shortly after arrival.
