TASMANIA BRACES FOR SEVERE WEATHER

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Weather Warning for Damaging Winds for people in the King Island, Furneaux Islands, North East, North West Coast and parts of the Western, East Coast and Central North Forecast Districts during Friday evening.

Locations which may be affected include Devonport, Burnie, Smithton, Scottsdale, Whitemark and St Helens.

It is important that the public is prepared for these conditions, SES advises people in affected areas to:

  • Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment (i.e. trampolines are a frequent issue in high winds)

  • Beware of damaged trees and power lines, trees & limbs may fall in these conditions

  • Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings

  • Manage pets and livestock

  • Be prepared in case of power outages

  • Disaster preparedness is a shared responsibility
