TASSIE CRASH LEAVES 4 IN HOSPITAL
A terrible start to the Australia Day long weekend for one family with a 2 car crash at Oatlands on the Midland Highway injuring 4 people.

A 9 year old boy was one of the injured and he was flown to the Royal Hobart Hospital by the Westpac Rescue chopper, suffering chest injuries but is now reported in a stable condition.

The crash occurred around 7:30am on Australian Day with Tas police and emergency services personnel called to the the scene on the Midland Highway at the southern entrance to Oatlands.

 

Police say preliminary investigations revealed that a silver Holden SUV travelling north was turning right into Oatlands when it collided with a red Toyota sedan travelling south. It appears the Holden turned into the path of the oncoming Toyota sedan.

 

As a result of the collision occupants of both vehicles sustained injuries. The nine year old boy one of those along with three other people who were transferred by road to the Royal Hobart Hospital, all with non-life threatening injuries.

 

Investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing, although speed, alcohol and drugs are not considered to be factors in the cause of the crash.
