Tasmania's North will prepare for flood plans by testing systems tonight.
The State Emergency Service will conduct a test of the Launceston flood siren in Invermay tonight (4th October) between 7:30pm to 8pm.
The siren will be sounded in Hope and Holbrook Streets for one minute each.
Those unfamiliar with the siren are advised it sounds similar to a traditional air raid siren.
This will be a test only and there is no requirement for residents to evacuate, or any reason to be alarmed by the siren.
In the event of a real emergency, the siren would be sounded to notify residents and business of the need to evacuate and during any evacuation the siren would sound for one minute every five minutes signifying the evacuation is compulsory.
