Tassie Pensioners spending half income on rent
Tassie pensioners have been hit hard by recent rent increases and the cost of living.

A new survey has found that TASMANIAN pension recipients, who don’t own their home, are being forced to pay more than half their income in rent,

The Newscorp survey has unveiled that sixty-three per cent of pensioners run out of money each fortnight, forcing them to go without necessities such as fresh food, with rent taking up almost half of their incomes

Tasmanian Council of Social Service chief Kym Goodes has called for the pension safety net to be restored, with many recipients struggling to live above the poverty line.

Meanwhile the Aged & Community Services Australia will today launch the Aged Services Workforce Hub.

Tasmania has the nation’s fastest ageing population and the online one stop shop will provide the State’s aged services workforce easy access to resources for, Registered Training Organisations, Employment Service Providers and the existing aged services workforce.
