2017 MOUNT GAMBIER CHRISTMAS PARADE

ENTRIES CLOSE SOON

2017 MOUNT GAMBIER CHRISTMAS PARADE

The festive season is almost here and the annual NF McDonnell & Sons Mount Gambier Christmas Parade to be held on Saturday 18th November is fast approaching.

The closing date for entries is Tuesday 31st October, 2017.

The City of Mount Gambier encourages all community organisations to consider entering a float into the event.
“It is lots of fun to be involved in and it’s a great way to encourage creativity and teamwork. So whether you’re a business, a school, sporting club or a community group, consider having a go.

Even individuals or families can get involved as a themed mobile entry in the parade,” City of Mount Gambier Team Leader Community and Events Denise Richardson said.

There are prizes for the best float or entry in each of the categories, with a top prize of $750.

“The categories include most outstanding entry, best Christmas theme, best school entry, best club or community organisation entry, open category, best themed band, encouragement award, best non-city entry and best brass band which is judged over the whole day by the Mount Gambier Lions Club,” Ms Richardson said.

“We already have nine brass bands entered in the parade, and as usual, they’ll be competing in the annual Mount Gambier Brass Band Festival at the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre.”

As a prelude, the bands will perform a massed march along Commercial Street East from the Old Town Hall to Crouch Street at 10:15am on the morning of the Christmas Parade.

The parade starts from Crouch Street at 11:00am then proceeds west along Commercial Street to end up at the Vansittart Park corner.

After the parade, the Rotary Club of Mount Gambier West will host Party in the Park in the Cave Garden. It features music, entertainment, food, drinks and activities for children.

“Father Christmas will be in attendance to speak to children about their Christmas present wish lists,” she said.
Entry forms for the Christmas Parade are available at the Main Corner, the Library, the Lady Nelson Visitor Centre or the Civic Centre Council office or you can lodge online at www.mountgambier.sa.gov.au.
