North Adelaide could be getting trams for the first time in 60 years if South Australian Premier Jay Weatherill is re-elected in March.
The $259 million project would create 133 construction jobs over the next two years, with the finished route servicing Adelaide Oval and North Adelaide as part of a $2 billion infrastructure package announced last week, AAP reports.
"This is a vision for a smart city. A city which moves people around in an effective way and that attracts people to it," Mr Weatherill said on Monday.
"That creates jobs and prosperity for South Australians."
While Opposition Leader Steven Marshall slammed another proposed tram line to Norwood costing $279 million, he said the North Adelaide route held “much more logic”.
