MFS and CFS crews from across the region and the state have paused today, commemorating past and present firefighters as a part of International Fire Fighters Day.
Also known as Saint Florian's Day, the initiative is held once a year to reflect on the sacrifices firefighters make on a daily basis.
The event focuses on volunteers and fulltime crews that respond to community emergencies; including house fires, bushfires, hazardous material incidents, rescues, road crashes, and incidents involving injuries and fatalities.
Officials are putting out the call for locals to reflect on the contributions made by emergency service personnel; whether they're full time, retained or volunteers.
Mount Gambier MFS have observed a minute silence this morning.
