Legendary showman Dave Graney returns to Mount Gambier

Legendary showman Dave Graney returns to Mount Gambier off the back of an overseas music tour, to launch his book “Workshy; my life as a bludge” at the Mount Gambier Library on Wednesday 8th November, 2017 at 6:30pm.

The ARIA Award winning rock musician and singer-songwriter is well known Australia wide having fronted a number of bands from the 1980s through to 2000s; The Moodlists, Dave Graney and the White Buffaloes and Dave Graney and the Coral Snakes, and has returned to the region on numerous occasions to his adoring fans.

In his book, Dave reveals the lengths he has gone to avoid anything that really feels like work. In his inimitable style, Dave veers from a feckless childhood in blue-collar South Australia, to the punk rock scene of the 1980s London, and beer-soaked nights touring Australia where he worked very hard at not working at all.

But in slacking off, Dave became one of the hardest working musicians in the industry, constantly evolving, re-inventing and staying one step ahead of everyone.

“I’ve spent most of my adult life as a musician, hardly working. Just the way I like it. If I were to try and enter the civilian workforce now, and had to write a resume of my activities over most of my adult life, I might as well say I’ve been in gaol or marooned on a desert island,” Mr Graney said.

“Workshy” is also a personal journey about growing up in Mount Gambier, Dave’s individual and social identities and influences and his love of playing football as a child.

“This is sure to be an entertaining night, perhaps with a song or two, and books available for purchase and signing,” Mount Gambier Library Community Engagement Coordinator Kristi Leamey said.

This is a free community event. Bookings are required for catering purposes. The public can secure their seat by phoning the Mount Gambier Library (08) 8721 2540 or online www.mountgambier.sa.gov.au/library under “Program and Events”.
