Home Fire Safety Week continues today, the MFS launching the campaign at the start of the Winter season.

The scheme covers the most preventable reasons for house fires.

A key theme of this week is "Two Metres from the Heater", calling for locals to maintain a safe distance between our heaters and combustibles.

Combustibles can include furniture, bedding, clothing or washing.

The call comes as new data finds in the past three years, MFS and Country Fire Services firefighters have battled over 100 house fires linked to home heating.

The week's main theme "Your Life Your Plan" urging locals to take control and reduce our risk of house fires.

Volunteers are calling for Limestone Coast locals to ensure they have working smoke alarms at all time, celebrating more than 2 decades of domestic smoke alarm legislation.

New data has found a lack of smoke alarms puts householders at about 80% greater risk of losing part or all of their home to a fire.
