A 40-year-old woman's been charged with one count of murder following the death of a man in Andergrove. Police discovering the body of a 39 year old man at an address on Bedford Road early Sunday morning. Police say the man died from a single stab wound to his chest. The woman is due to appear in the Mackay Magistrates Court today.

The Mackay council will today consider putting up bill boards in place of 40 sheoaks chopped down on the foreshore of Blacks Beach in the wake of Cyclone Debbie. The removal of the trees improved some resident’s views but council's still no closer to finding the vandals. While an investigating officer's report is suggesting council raise billboards there to raise awareness about illegal tree clearing.

The federal budgets out and one of the big winners are our schools. The 75 primary and secondary schools throughout the Dawson electorate receiving an increase over the next ten years of $414M. There's more than $320M for building infrastructure within the Dawson electorate. Dawson MP George Christensen says local motorists will be happy. While the local MP's over the moon about trailing drug testing for the dole, and the abolition of 457 Visas.

Pre-construction activities are underway at the Vines Creek Bridges Replacement project site. Main construction works are set to begin later this month.

LOCAL SPORT

A group of 14 rowers from Mackay are celebrating their efforts at the world Masters Games in New Zealand. Solveig Ward, Terry Jamieson, Jane Deguara and Jeff Ward taking out a bronze in the mixed quad race.

The inaugural 10 to 19 years Mackay District School Sport Cross Country trials is being hailed a success. About 450 students taking to a track around Harrup Park Country Club in a bid to selected in the Mackay team to compete at the Capricornia trials later this month.
