A 47 year old man has missing from Mackay. Kevin Formosa was last seen on Monday at an address on Connors Road in Paget in a white ute. Police and family hold concerns for his welfare as he suffers from a medical condition and has not made contact with friends or family since. They're asking anyone who may have any information on his whereabouts to contact Crime Stoppers.

Investigations are continuing into a number of stolen cars around Mackay. Local police asking us just yesterday to call crime stoppers if we see a 2013 model silver coloured Toyota Landcruiser with the rego number of 84 JLR It's been stolen from Walkerston, along with at least 5 others around town since last Thursday.

Construction on the ground works for the new Mackay fire and Rescue Station will start next week. It’s following a turning of the sod ceremony yesterday. Mackay MP Julieanne Gilbert says it's a huge win for the region.

The Marian and Farleigh and Racecourse Mackay Sugar mills have crushed over 784 thousand tonnes so far this year. While there was major downtime at the Marian Mill last week due to failures of a molasses pump.

For five nights in July, the Mackay Botanic Gardens will light up with an artistic tribute to the last 30 years of Mackay’s Festival of Arts. It gets underway tonight before the Queensland Music Festival's Songs that made me event tomorrow night. Councilor Fran Mann says so far the festivals been a huge hit

 

THE Whitsunday Voices Youth Literature Festival gets underway tonight. The event last year saw about 6000 students, educators and parents attend.

LOCAL SPORT

 

There's no getting in the way of the Whitsunday Sea Eagles AFL boys who soared into claim a win at the weekend. They finished up with a 103 points victory over Bakers Creek Tigers on Saturday.

Our Proserpine lawn bowlers are the division one champions in the 2017 pennant competition. They finished with a six shot win over Mackay Club.

On the waters: Southeasterly 15 to 20 knots, reaching up to 25 knots offshore south of Mackay in the evening. Seas 1 to 1.5 metres, increasing to 1.5 to 2 metres offshore during the morning. Swell Below 0.5 metres.
